Icelandair is proud to sponsor the Football Association of Iceland, the Handball Federation of Iceland and the Icelandic Olympic Committee. Most of all, Icelandair is proud of supporting and sponsoring international sports through its operation. The following is a sample of the range of sports that Icelandair has sponsored in the past in one way or another.

Iceland Airwaves

Icelandair established the Iceland Airwaves music festival in 1999 and is still its principal sponsor. The original goal was to introduce Icelandic musicians to representatives from overseas record producers. Since then, Iceland Airwaves has grown in scope, evolved and thrived, and it is currently an important part of Reykjavík’s cultural scene when more than 150 musicians perform in various venues in the city. The work and effort invested in the preparation and execution of this festival have been extremely fruitful and many Icelandic musicians have achieved international recognition.

Icelandic Music Experiments

We at Icelandair are proud to provide young and talented musicians with support through Icelandic Music Experiments, an event where young people appear on stage for the first time and are given the opportunity to stand in the spotlight and play music. Icelandair rewards those who win in the Icelandic Music Experiments by giving them the opportunity to perform in the annual Iceland Airwaves music festival.

Music

Icelandair’s support for music includes transporting Icelandic artists overseas and enabling foreign music lovers to come to Iceland to experience concerts and music festivals. To this end, Icelandair sponsors the Icelandic Music Experiments (Músíktilraunir), Iceland Airways and Reykjavík Loftbrú festivals.

Special Children

At Icelandair, we do not regard a charitable issue as “just another corporate project”. It would probably be both easier and quicker if our charitable efforts were simply direct contributions from our accounts. But charitable issues are dear to each and every member of Icelandair’s staff, and their active participation in the end helps those who receive grants reap greater rewards as well as those who make contributions.
On each and every flight, the crew take time out from their normal busy work schedule to present the Special Children Travel Fund and collect change from generous passengers. The phrase ’every little bit helps’ certainly applies in this case. The fund grows continuously as a result of these efforts. Our staff are proud of the work they do for the Special Children Travel Fund. Some members of staff have even said that they did not choose the cause, the cause chose them.
Twice a year, the directors of the Special Children Travel Fund make selections from among applicants. It is often necessary to make special travel arrangements for children with long-term illnesses, in which case our dedicated and positive-thinking crews make every effort to ensure that the children’s flights are as comfortable as possible. Since the fund was established in 2003, more than a thousand children with long-term illnesses and members of their families have been able to accept the fund’s invitation to travel to their dream destinations. Families from Iceland have often gone on desperately needed holidays in Florida, and there are cases where families have come from Boston on adventure trips to Iceland. It is simply impossible to put a price tag on the memories that families take home from such trips.
Icelandair supports the Special Children Travel Fund. Further information on the Special Children Travel Fund may be found here.

Icelandair’s sponsorship policy is clear. Please familiarise yourself thoroughly with the grant options. You will find all the information you need on the minimum requirements Icelandair makes of grant recipients and what you can do to increase the likelihood that you will be selected.
If your idea does not fall within this framework, then it is unlikely that we will be able sponsor your project. However we do accept all ideas for sponsorship projects with an open mind. The fund’s directors meet every xx weeks to review the applications that have been submitted since their last meeting. We encourage applicants to apply well in advance. In a company as large as Icelandair, long-term planning is an essential and integral part of professional working procedures. Applications that are submitted  with just a few days or weeks notice are almost impossible to grant. We request that applicants take this into account and submit their applications in good time.
Remember to clearly state the basic aspects of the application. What, when and where. What target group are you trying to reach? How many will see the message? What is it you expect from Icelandair? Are there other sponsors? Why did you decide to seek the help of Icelandair. Why should Icelandair support your cause? (Please bear in mind what has already been stated about the company’s policies on sponsorship.) Who is the contact person for the application?
When Icelandair assists a cause, we expect that this fact is always clearly stated when the cause is presented to the public. We also expect that information about Icelandair and/or specific services provided by the company is included.
Icelandair does not support causes or events that relate to alcohol, tobacco, politics or religion.
